Piloted by the US Marine's "Black Sheep" attack squadron, the famous F-4U Corsair was a piston-engine, single-seater airplane. One of the most active WWII aircraft, the F4U plane definitely saw a lot of action during that time. Most significantly, the Corsair plane saw the capture and surrender of Japan. Black Sheep head, Marine Major Gregory "Pappy" Boyington flew and led the squadron to the Solomon Islands. According to sources, Major Boyington chose the rough-looking F-4U airplane to encourage the pilots to fly their own Corsairs and ultimately endorsing the aircraft. Major Boyington and his F-4U aircraft shot a total of 22 enemy planes during Worl War II. An amazing feat that which further cemented his as well as the Corsair plane's popularity.
